- History of the Minnesota PGA Junior Golf Academy & the Co-Directors -
The Minnesota PGA Junior Golf Academy is celebrating its 24th season as a premier training center for young golfers. The strength of the Minnesota PGA Junior Golf Academy comes from its Professional teaching staff. Greg Schulze and Jim "Red" Marquardt will return to co-coordinate the 2002 Minnesota PGA Junior Golf Academies. The PGA of America is recognized world wide as the "teachers of golf." It is only fitting that golf's finest teachers assemble at the academy as staff instructors and supervisory personnel for this fun-filled event. The academy has a uniform teaching philosophy, eliminating confusion and doubt in the golfer's mind.
Greg Schulze is a 1999 recipient of the PGA of America's Specialty Certification in Teaching. Currently, he is one of 50 PGA Professionals in the United States to have earned this distinction. Greg serves as PGA Golf Professional and Director of Instruction at Sawmill Golf Club in Stillwater, Minnesota.
Greg has spent ten winter seasons in South Florida teaching golf at three different facilities, including The Academy of Golf at PGA National Golf Club in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida which has been voted the nation's #1 golf school. Greg learned the art of golf instruction from three of Golf Magazines "Top - 100 Instructors in America."
Greg is a native of St. Paul, and a University of Minnesota business school graduate. He is highly dedicated to junior golf. Greg was a co-founder and administrator of the Martin County (Florida) Junior Golf Association, is a clinic volunteer with the MGA Fairway Foundation, which introduces golf to inner-city youth, and directs golf clinics for the Minnesota Special Olympics. He is excited and honored to help co-coordinate the Minnesota PGA Junior Golf Academies.
Jim "Red" Marquardt is a PGA Teaching Professional at Keller Golf Club in St. Paul, and has been a staff instructor for the Minnesota PGA Junior Golf Academies since 1996. He has attended several PGA National Teaching Seminars, and has studied under the guidance of Jim Flick, Hank Haney, John Redman, Phil Rogers, and Mike Adams.
Jim was born and raised in St. Paul, and attended Gustavus Adolphus College. He has instructed students at many Twin City Area golf courses and country clubs and has an especially good rapport with juniors. Jim encourages students to have fun while learning golf. He has also conducted several adult education programs and has been involved with the Minnesota and National Special Olympics.
