2005 Minnesota Junior Golf Association
2005 Player's Tour
Entry Procedures & Player of the Year Criteria
Mission: The Minnesota PGA Junior Golf Association will provide playing opportunities for the TOP junior golfers in Minnesota and surrounding areas to compete directly against other golfers in ALL age categories. There will be 3 different series of events and each series will consist of five 18-hole events and one 36-hole event. These playing opportunities will promote competition and camaraderie.
Sponsorship: The Minnesota PGA Junior Golf Association Players' Tour is sponsored by the Minnesota Section of the PGA, a non-profit corporation chartered in the state of Minnesota. All Junior Golf Association correspondence should be directed to the sponsor's corporate office: Minnesota Section PGA, 12800 Bunker Prairie Road, Coon Rapids, Minnesota, 55448. Telephone: (763) 754-6641.
Eligibility: The Players' Tour is an invitational program in which eligibility requirements are determined by the Minnesota PGA Junior Golf Committee. It is open to boys and girls ages 13 -19. Juniors who have reached their 19th birthday prior to August 15, 2005 are eligible only if they have immediately finished their senior year of high school. Invitations are extended to the boys who had a scoring average to par of 8.33 or less and girls who had a scoring average to par of 18.00 or less in the 2004 Minnesota PGA Junior Golf program.
Registration: The number of players who can participate in the Players' Tour is limited. Registration and individual series will be filled on a first come, first served basis. The official Players' Tour registration must be filled out completely and returned to the Minnesota PGA Junior Golf Association by March 11, 2005. After this date The Minnesota PGA Junior Golf Association reserves the right to invite additional players to fill any open spots for the Players' Tour. Please return the Players' Tour registration by mail or by registering on-line at www.minnesotajuniorgolf.com. Each of the three series will be limited to 80 junior golfers (68 Boys and 12 girls). Each junior golfer may register for ONLY ONE series. Series registration will not overlap (There are no pick and choose events). Registration fee will be $235.00. This will include your membership fee, the entry fees for the five 18-hole events and one 36-hole event that is included in your series, and a special Players' Tour membership package.
Membership Confirmation: Players' Tour membership confirmations will be emailed to the email address we have on file for the junior. If no email is on file a confirmation letter will be mailed out to the junior.
Cancellation Policy: If a junior is not able to make it to an event due to a personal reason and it is less than seven days prior to the event, he/she still needs to call 763-754-6641 to cancel out of the event he/she is scheduled to play in. You need to do this even if it is the day of the event. There will be NO refunds distributed if a junior misses an event in his/her series. Juniors who wish to cancel out of the entire Players' Tour program must do so seven (7) days prior to the first event in their series in order to receive a full refund. Any cancellations after the onset of his/her series will forfeit all rights to any refunds distributed by the Minnesota PGA Junior Golf Association. In the case of an emergency, written requests for refunds must be submitted to the Minnesota PGA Junior Golf Association Office. In order to be considered for a refund due to illness or injury, a doctor's/physician's note must accompany the written request. All emergency-related refund requests will be considered on their own merits.
Competition Format: Each series will consist of five 18-hole stroke play competitions and one 36-hole stroke play competition. Players will be paired into either a boys or girls division depending on their sex. USGA rules shall govern all play. Players may not use caddies or motorized carts. All players must either carry their own clubs or use a pull-cart. NO provisions have been made for practice rounds. On tournament days, practice is restricted to designated practice areas at the discretion of the host facility. Pace of play will be strictly enforced; participants playing 18 holes should complete their round in at least four and one half-hours after the start of play. THERE WILL BE NO WALK-ONS AT ANY OF THE SERIES EVENTS. Each event will have a main roster of participants who will be allowed to compete.
Prizes: At the completion of play, plaques will be awarded to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners. In the event of a tie, the tournament administrator will determine a playoff method (if possible, an on-course playoff will take place, either playoff holes or a chip-off/putt-off. In the event that the course is not available, a scorecard playoff will be used beginning with the #1 handicap hole). Juniors that are involved in the tie must be present to participate. Playoffs are conducted only to determine who will receive the plaques.
Bonus Points: Members of the Players' Tour will be eligible to win plaques and earn Player of the Year bonus points at events outside their scheduled series. Players' Tour members can register for these events by filling out an outside series event registration form. This form needs to be returned by mail or fax, there will be no on-line registration available for these events. The cost to play in 18-hole events will be $25.00 and 36-hole events will be $40.00. Players' Tour members playing in events outside of their series will only be able to earn bonus points. They will not be eligible to earn the points that are awarded for 18-hole and 36-hole series events. (See 2005 Player of the Year Criteria)
Points: Juniors will be eligible to earn points in the six events from their scheduled series. Points will be awarded to boys who place 1st through 20th in 18-hole and 36-hole events. Points will be awarded to girls who place in the top five in both 18 and 36-hole events. *All juniors who finish in a tie will split the points. There will be SIX 2005 Players' Tour Series Champions. Upon completion of the final event in each individual Series, one boy and one girl will be designated as Series Champion for his/her separate series.
Juniors participating in the Players' Tour are invited to the Match Play Championship, held July 13th-July 15th at Dacotah Ridge GC. Those who qualify for match play will earn Player of the Year points as shown below. These points will not count towards Series Champion.
Juniors participating in the Players' Tour are eligible to earn an invitation to play in the end of the year event, the Minnesota PGA Junior Golf Association Tournament of Champions. This tournament will be a two-day, 36-hole event that will take place at The Legacy Courses at Cragun's in early August. Exact dates of the event to be announced. Invitations will be extended to the top 18 Boys and 5 Girls* in each individual series OR any junior who has won an event in their individual series.
The Players' Tour Player of the Year will be awarded to one boy and one girl following completion of play of the 2005 Tournament of Champions. Points at the Tournament of Champions will be awarded to the 1st through 20th place finishes in the boys division and 1st through 10th place finishes in the girls division. Points will be split for ties at all Minnesota PGA Players' Tour events and the Tournament of Champions. Any score posted as a With-Draw (WD) -(Without good reason), No-Show (NS) and No-Card (NC) will automatically make the junior ineligible for Player of the Year. Any junior disqualified (DQ) for cheating will also be ineligible for Player of the Year.
*The Minnesota PGA Junior Golf Committee reserves the right to adjust the point distribution, depending on the field size of the series.
