McCauley and Birdwell Win Minnesota Junior PGA 12 & Under Championship
Reese McCauley of Inver Grove Heights, Minn. and Jake Birdwell of Blaine, Minn. won the 2017 Minnesota Junior PGA 12 & Under Championship in the Girls’ and Boys’ divisions, respectively, today at Applewood Hills Golf Course. This is one day, 18-hole event featuring the top youth golfers ages 12 and under in the area. Applewood Hills Golf Course is an 18-hole, par-62 executive course.
McCauley, an 11-year-old, shot an impressive 8-over 70 to win the Girls’ division by six shots over Abigail Turkowski of Little Falls, Minn. McCauley shot a 33 on the front and a 37 on the back. Finishing third in the Girls’ division was Ava Salay of River Falls, Wis. Birdwell, also an 11-year-old, shot a 4-over 66 to win the Boys’ division by two shots over Justin Luan and Carter Spalding of Woodbury, Minn. Birdwell fired a 1-over on the front nine alone and had a tournament-high three birdies. Spalding defeated Luan on the first playoff hole to take second place.
