Olivia Salonek and Mason Roloff are the 2018 Warrior Cup Champions in the 13-15 age division. This tournament is an invite-only, 18-hole event featuring players who have previously won tournaments on the Valspar Junior Tour throughout this summer. The 2018 Warrior Cup match was hosted by Northfield Golf Club in Northfield, Minn. on August 13, 2018.
Salonek, a 2023 class member out of Roseville, Minn., strung together a 37-39-76 effort to secure the two-stroke cushion over Ally Chan of Excelsior, Minn. and the overall 2018 Girls Warrior Cup 13-15 age division title. Salonek claimed her invitation to the 2018 Warrior Cup with a co-victory at the Oneka Ridge GC Junior Tour match.
Throughout this summer, Salonek has managed five top-ten finishes with this being her first solo victory of the season. Despite the solid showing at Northfield, Salonek did state that her “nerves began to kick in” following the turn once she realized she stood a strong chance to claim the victory. With this win, Salonek has earned an automatic bid to the 2019 MN-WI Cup Matches which she is looking forward to playing in for the first time with defending champion, Team Minnesota.
Mason Roloff was in close company in the boys bracket, but his 39-34-73 secured him a solo first-place standing while Nate Stevens secured second-place with a 2-over 74 by default over Samuel Baker. Roloff has been busy this season by qualifying with two, first-place finishes on the Junior Tour at Oak Marsh GC and Purple Hawk CC. In addition to his multiple podium finishes, Roloff has finished in the top-ten in eight events earlier this summer.
Similar to Salonek, Roloff will also earn a spot on the 2019 MN-WI Cup Matches team and will compete on behalf of Team Minnesota for the first time. Roloff noted his efforts on the course today and mentioned his excitement to be able to compete for Team Minnesota next year—a feat he has been looking forward to for quite some time.
