SECTION FOUNDATION
Mission of the Minnesota Section PGA Foundation
The Minnesota Section PGA Foundation was founded in 1995 as a 501(C) 3 charitable organization. The goal of the Foundation is to specifically carry out to two main functions; promotion of the game through programs and to provide financial assistance to worthy members of the Minnesota PGA Junior Golf Program and PGA member facilities to further their education.
Promotion of the game of golf has been directly associated to programs with core values such as integrity, honesty, respect, self-assurance, courtesy and perseverance. Those programs that the Foundation have provided assistance to include the Fairway Foundation, The First Tee Programs of Minnesota, Midnight Golf, Minnesota PGA Family Clinics, and the Dakota Chapter Junior Golf Camp.
The Foundation also provides financial assistance to members of the Minnesota PGA Junior Golf Association through scholarships. These scholarships enable these individuals to continue their education beyond High School. Since 1995 the Foundation Committee has awarded more than $50,000 to worthy students including $12,000 in 2004 and $16,000 in 2005.
In 2005, along with the Minnesota Section PGA Growth of the Game Committee, the Foundation supported Section programs such as the First Swing Clinic at Hazeltine National Golf Club held May 2-3 and the All-city Junior Clinic at the TPC of the Twin Cities held May 24.
At the First Swing Clinic ten professionals helped provide instruction to individuals with disabilities and also used the Section’s “Fun Tee” concept that allowed those there to play a few holes of golf. The program was an overwhelming success and dates are being set for 2006 at Hazeltine National Golf Club.
At the All-City junior Clinic over 700 juniors were on hand to watch a clinic from Dennis Walters and a select number of kids from the audience were selected to receive lessons from the twelve professionals present.
