Jan/Feb 2002 Newsletter
  Program Changes for 2002
The Minnesota PGA Junior Golf Association would like to wish everyone a happy and prosperous New Year! This newsletter is sent to everyone who has participated in our program, and anyone who has requested to be put on our mailing list. The newsletter is your main source of Minnesota PGA Junior Golf Association information, so please read through it very carefully. If you are receiving this newsletter and would like to be taken off of our mailing list, please call us at 763/754-6641.
The Minnesota PGA Junior Golf Committee has decided to make the following changes for the 2002 season:
    1. Include the 12-year olds in the younger age division. We received feedback from parents and golf professionals who thought that not all 12-year olds were ready for 18-hole competition. The main focus of the 12 and Under Tour is to prepare younger golfers for the Junior Tour. The 12 and Under Tour is broken down into two segments, the Transition Tour and the Beginners' Tour. The Transition Tour is open to juniors in the 10-12 age group, and consists of 9-hole executive golf courses and 9-hole regulation golf courses. Juniors in the Transition Tour will also be allowed to participate in the 18-hole executive golf courses that are listed on the Junior Tour schedule. The Beginners' Tour consists of Par-3 golf courses only, and is designed for those juniors in the 8-12 age group who may not have as much tournament experience as their peers. It is our goal to introduce as many golfers as we can to the game, and we hope that introducing different stages of tournament competition will help us accomplish that goal.
    2. Eliminate the Junior Tour Award for scoring averages. The Junior Golf Committee felt it necessary to have only one boy and one girl Player of the Year, both of which come from the Players' Tour.
    3. Implement a Junior and a Parent/Spectator Code of Conduct. These can be found on the back of the Junior Tour Membership Application page. We feel it is necessary for everyone to read and abide by these Codes of Conduct so all junior golfers have positive experiences during tournaments.
    4. Cancellation policy. This year, to receive a refund, we are requiring at least a 7 (seven)-day advance notice per event instead of 5 business days. This should help eliminate confusion.
If you are a returning member, we are glad to have you back! If you are a new member, welcome! It is our goal to continue to improve the learning and playing opportunities for our members. If you have any questions about our programs, please call us at the Minnesota PGA Junior Golf Association Office (763-754-6641).

  Be Prepared…
Attention juniors! The March/April edition of "Divot Dispatch" will be the last paper issue that will be mailed directly to you. We post each newsletter on this website, (www.minnesotajuniorgolf.com), and in the future you will receive an e-mail telling you when each edition has been updated. If you wish to continue to receive this newsletter in the mail, you must send a request to the Junior Golf Office.

   Mulligans
In the last issue of "Divot Dispatch," we accidentally omitted a hole-in-one that occurred during the 2001 Minnesota PGA Junior Golf Association season:
At Buffalo Heights GC in Buffalo, MN, Junior Tour member David Damberger of Annandale, MN aced the 162-yard 12th hole. He used a 3 iron for the fantastic shot.
We sincerely apologize for this omission.

RECIPIENTS OF 2001 MNPGA JR GOLF ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIPS
The Minnesota PGA Junior Golf Association is proud to announce the four scholarship recipients for 2001. The winners are Austin Hemmer of Fargo, ND, Brad Cole of Andover, MN, Jessica Thomas of Esko, MN, and Anna Stocker of Duluth, MN.
Each recipient will receive a $1,000.00 scholarship to apply towards his or her college tuition for the fall of 2001. The Minnesota PGA Junior Golf Committee awarded the scholarships on criteria from a combination of high school grades, class rank, ACT/SAT scores and extra-curricular activities. To have been eligible for the 2001 Minnesota PGA Junior Golf Association Scholarship, the individual must have been a member of the 2001 Minnesota PGA Junior Golf Association and currently a senior in high school. The Minnesota PGA Junior Golf Committee would like to thank all applicants.

  COLLEGE GOLF SEMINAR
Back by popular demand, the Minnesota PGA Junior Golf Association College Seminar is here. We are happy to announce that this year's speakers include Brad James and Cathy Lombritto. Brad is the Interim Head Coach for the University of Minnesota Men's Golf Team, and Cathy is the Head Coach for the University of St. Thomas Women's Golf Team. Brad and Cathy will focus mainly on "How to Receive a Golf Scholarship," guidelines to follow NCAA Rules, official/unofficial visits to campuses, and tips on how to expose yourself so you will be recruited. Brad and Cathy will also present how to write and what to include in your resumé. If you already have a working resumé in progress, it would be extremely beneficial to bring it along with you.
Another helpful topic this seminar will touch upon is how to prepare yourself in the classroom before college arrives. The main focus will be on important classes that should be taken in high school to meet NCAA requirements. This seminar will include interesting discussions and handouts. Following the presentations, there will be additional time for questions to be answered.
The 2002 Minnesota PGA Junior Golf Association College Golf Seminar will be held at Majestic Oaks GC on Saturday, March 9, 2002. Rolls, juice and coffee will be available at 9:30 during registration. At 10:00 a.m., the seminar will begin and will last until around 12:00 p.m. The seminar is open to 2002 Minnesota PGA Junior Golf Association members only! This seminar is NOT open to students in their senior year of high school. You must be a junior in high school or younger to attend. There is no charge to attend this seminar BUT you must PRE-REGISTER by checking the box on the Membership Application and return it to the Minnesota PGA by Wednesday, March 6th or you can pre-register by calling (763) 754-6641. Parents are encouraged to attend also.
