Mar/April 2001 Newsletter
  "March" into Junior Golf
The Minnesota PGA Junior Golf Association has been very busy planning for the 2001 season, so our members will have many playing opportunities this summer. We will be offering over 150 junior tournaments, which are open to juniors ages 8 to 19. We anticipate processing over 1700 Junior Tour membership and tournament applications.
Now that the snow is finally starting to melt and the winter high school sports are wrapping up, it is time to think ahead to summer golf. Would you like to gain more tournament experience? How about meeting more friends who share the same interest as you? Would you like to know how your golf game stacks up to other junior golfers your age? If you answered "yes" to any of these questions, you might want to join the Minnesota PGA Junior Golf Association. Benefits to becoming a member include the above mentioned items, as well as a chance to play some of the top golf courses in the Minnesota PGA Section. If you become a member by April 20th, you will also receive a 2001 Junior Tour membership kit. This kit will include an official Minnesota PGA Junior Golf Association golf hat, a bag tag, a year subscription to "Divot Dispatch" (The Official Newsletter of the Minnesota PGA Junior Golf Association), a 2001 Minnesota PGA Junior Golf Association Membership Directory and a 2000-01 USGA Rules of Golf book.

You may disregard the enclosed Junior Tour Membership Application if you have already returned the one from the January/February edition of "Tour Tidbits" or registered on-line. If you are unsure whether you have already done this, contact us and we will let you know.
Remember, you need to return your Junior Tour Membership Application and your Junior Tour Tournament Application to the Minnesota PGA Junior Golf Association by Friday, April 20th at 4:30 p.m. If you have any questions about our programs, please call us at the Minnesota PGA Junior Golf Association Office (763-754-6641).   Congratulations Mike and Scott!
As you can see, we have a new name for the Minnesota PGA Junior Golf Association Newsletter, "Divot Dispatch." After long deliberation behind closed doors, we are happy to announce that Mike Boosalis of Minneapolis, MN and Scott Lenz of Eagan, MN both came up with the new name. Each will receive $100.00 to apply towards his membership fee or tournament fees. Thanks to all of you who mailed in an entry. It was a tough decision!

  MINNESOTA PGA JUNIOR GOLF ACADEMIES
The Minnesota PGA Junior Golf Association will be offering several one-day academies as well as a two-day academy again in 2001. These academies are designed for juniors to learn and improve their golf game with the help of PGA Professionals. Students will receive comprehensive and individual instruction in the following specialized areas: the full swing, chipping, pitching, putting, bunker shots, trouble shots and special shots. At each academy, students will receive supervision by Minnesota PGA Academy staff, practice balls, a 2000-2001 USGA Rule Book, a Minnesota PGA Junior Golf Academy tee gift, lunch, and a personalized instruction video and swing analysis. Students will have the opportunity to play at least nine holes at the facility where the academy is being conducted. Both boys and girls, ages 8 through 18, are eligible for registration. Some skill is required as well as a serious interest in the game and a desire to improve. Space is limited at each academy! Do not hesitate to sign up early. The cost for a one-day academy is $80.00, and the cost for a two-day academy is $160.00.
Greg Schulze of Sawmill GC and Jim "Red" Marquardt of Keller GC will be the Co-Coordinators of these academies. Below are the dates and locations of the academies that are scheduled for 2001. If you would like to receive a brochure or if you have any questions about the academies, feel free to call the Minnesota PGA Junior Golf Association Office at 763-754-6641, or check us out on the web at www.minnesotajuniorgolf.com.

  Players' Tour Update
Registration for the 2001 Minnesota PGA Junior Golf Association Players' Tour has already begun! Applications were sent to juniors who were a member of the Minnesota PGA Junior Golf Association in 2000, and had a scoring average of 83 or less for boys, and 95 or less for girls.
As of March 1st, Series A, B, and D are full for boys and Series B and D are full for girls. There are plenty of spots open for boys and girls in Series C and for girls ONLY in Series A so please don't hesitate to send in your application if you received one. If you did not receive an application because you were not a member of the Minnesota PGA Junior Golf Association last year, and feel that you might be able to compete on a higher level, call us at the Minnesota PGA Junior Golf Association office, 763-754-6641.
The Minnesota PGA Junior Golf Association is excited to announce the addition of a new tournament to juniors who are members of the Players' Tour, The Inaugural Players' Tour Match Play Championship! This event will be held at The Legacy @ Cragun's, July 18-20. There are still many spots open in the girls' division, so again, please don't hesitate to send in those entry forms. Entries for the qualifying round are filled on a first-come basis. Due to the overwhelming response we have received in the boys' division, we have added another qualifier on June 12th at The Links @ Northfork for the boys' division only. Contact us if you have any questions.
Players' Tour members are eligible to qualify for the year-end event, The Tournament of Champions. This event is an invitation-only event, held at Izaty's G&YC, August 15-16. Invitations will be extended to the top 18 boys and 6 girls (depending on the size of the series), based upon their Players' Tour Player of the Year Point Standings or Juniors who have won an event in their individual series.

  minnesotajuniorgolf.com
The official web-site of the Minnesota PGA Junior Golf Association is a great resource for current and prospective members. We added on-line registration for the 2001 Minnesota PGA Junior Golf Association season, which includes Junior Tour Membership and Tournament Registration. Juniors and parents can save a lot of time by applying online. Follow the four steps under the "2001 Registration Information" section. If you are already a member of the Junior Tour, you may skip step #1 of the Registration process.
If you registered for your 2001 Junior Tour membership or tournaments on-line, you do not have to send in a paper copy of your forms. If you are unsure whether you have already done this, contact us and we will let you know. Also, you will receive your confirmation of your Junior Tour membership by e-mail.
If something that you would like to see is missing from the web-site, or if you find incorrect information, feel free to contact us at info@minnesotajuniorgolf.com.
