Mar/Apr 2002 Newsletter
  "March" into Junior Golf
The Minnesota PGA Junior Golf Association has been very busy planning for the 2002 season, so our members will have many playing opportunities this summer. We will be offering over 150 junior tournaments, which are open to juniors ages 8 to 19. We anticipate processing over 1500 Junior Tour membership and tournament applications.
Now that the snow is finally starting to melt and the winter high school sports are wrapping up, it is time to think ahead to summer golf. Would you like to gain more tournament experience? How about meeting more friends who share the same interest as you? Would you like to know how your golf game stacks up to other junior golfers your age? If you answered "yes" to any of these questions, you might want to join the Minnesota PGA Junior Golf Association. Benefits to becoming a member include the above mentioned items, as well as a chance to play some of the top golf courses in the Minnesota PGA Section. If you become a member by April 19th, you will also receive a 2002 Junior Tour membership kit, not to mention $10 off your membership fee. This kit will include an official Minnesota PGA Junior Golf Association golf hat, a bag tag, a year subscription to "Divot Dispatch" (The Official Newsletter of the Minnesota PGA Junior Golf Association), a 2002 Minnesota PGA Junior Golf Association Membership Directory and a 2002-03 USGA Rules of Golf book.
This newsletter has all the information you need regarding the 2002 Minnesota PGA Junior Golf Association season. Please read through the entire newsletter very carefully. You may disregard the enclosed Junior Tour Membership Application if you have already returned the one from the January/February edition of "Tour Tidbits" or registered on-line. If you are unsure whether you have already done this, check www.minnesotajuniorgolf.com to see if we have processed your Junior Tour membership application. We are not sending out confirmations this year, but are confirming applications online.
Remember, you need to return your Junior Tour Membership Application and your Junior Tour Tournament Application to the Minnesota PGA Junior Golf Association by Friday, April 19th at 4:30 p.m. If you have any questions about our programs, please call us at the Minnesota PGA Junior Golf Association Office (763-754-6641).

  Be Prepared…
Attention juniors! The March/April edition of "Divot Dispatch" will be the last paper issue that will be mailed directly to you. We post each newsletter on our website, www.minnesotajuniorgolf.com, and in the future you will receive an e-mail telling you when each edition has been updated. If you wish to continue to receive this newsletter in the mail, you must send a request to the Junior Golf Office.

The official web-site of the Minnesota PGA Junior Golf Association is a great resource for current and prospective members. We offer on-line registration for the 2002 Minnesota PGA Junior Golf Association season, which includes Junior Tour Membership and Tournament Registration. Follow the four steps under the "2002 Registration Information" section. If you are already a member of the Junior Tour, you may skip step #1 of the Registration process.
If you registered for your 2002 Junior Tour membership or tournaments on-line, you do not have to send in a paper copy of your forms. If you are unsure whether you have already done this, visit the web-site to see if we have received your Junior Tour Membership Application. This also is the place to check to see if your Tournament Application has been processed.
Juniors can see facility information when they click on the interactive schedules. Information includes phone numbers, web-sites and directions. This will save you time in finding your way to the junior tournaments.

Count All Strokes (Yours and Theirs)!
An important issue in Junior Golf is the accusation that "so and so" didn't count all of their strokes. We receive phone calls and e-mail messages every year that tell us this is going on. We obviously want juniors to play fair, and everyone in the group can help out. If you are keeping someone's score, you need to watch that person and agree on a score at the end of the hole. If you can not agree on a score, you need to bring this issue to the attention of the On-Site Administrator before you sign their scorecard.
Unfortunately we are not able to have Rules Officials with each group at our events, so it is up to each junior to make sure they pay attention to what is going on in their group. This protects the entire field, and doesn't give anyone an unfair advantage.
Golf is a game of honesty. Juniors who don't count all of their strokes on purpose might not get caught every time, but they certainly gain a reputation.
