May/June 2001 Newsletter
  What a Year!
The last time we talked to you, this past May, we were in the process of sorting through membership and tournament applications in preparation for a fun filled summer. Unfortunately, when the leaves start changing colors and temperatures start dropping our season on the golf courses comes to an end. Where did the summer go? Time flies when you're having fun!
The Minnesota PGA Junior Golf Association had another great year. We had over 1700 juniors who were members of our program. We offered both learning and playing opportunities for our members. We were fortunate enough to provide junior golf academies and over 125 playing opportunities even though Mother Nature tried to damper our activities. We had to cancel ten events due to rain in the first six days, and then as our season came to end in August temperatures were over the 100-degree mark. We were able to get through this and want to thank everyone for the fantastic year we had in 2001.
As we mentioned earlier, we had over 1700 members of our program this year. You can only image the amount of paperwork, phone calls, time, and special help that is needed in order for a program of this size to operate. We were fortunate to have the help of several people. Special thanks to Brooke Hokana and Lauren Essig who were our summer interns. Thank you Joe Whalen and Paul Grovum for their help and expertise in computer programs. Joe developed the lottery program that we used for our Junior Tour and Paul developed and maintains our web-site. We would also like to thank the 24 on-site administrators who helped with the organization and implementation of the events. Thanks to the sales representatives and the companies who, with their products, supported the juniors. We would especially like to thank all the facilities who hosted a 2001 Minnesota PGA Junior Golf Association event. Without the support from these facilities, The Minnesota PGA Junior Golf Association could not exist. More importantly, our junior members would not have a place to play. We cannot thank you enough for all of the hard work and effort you gave us this past year.

  WE NEED YOUR HELP!
We have already begun planning for the 2002 Minnesota PGA Junior Golf Association Season. We anticipate continuing growth in our membership and have some plans that will hopefully make the program better for everyone. In order to do this, we need your help!
We need more support from facilities in the Twin Cities metropolitan area. If you, your parents, or someone you know is a member of a facility and they are interested in hosting a Minnesota PGA Junior Event in the year 2002, have the individual(s) call Bob Bush or Melanie Lepp at the Minnesota PGA Junior Golf Office at 763/754-6641.
