| The Fun has Begun! |
The 2002 Minnesota PGA Junior Golf Association Season is already upon us, we are in full swing. We have been busy here at the Minnesota PGA Junior Golf Association office, as we had almost 1300 juniors who became members by the deadline date, and 1100 of those members sent in their Junior Tour tournament application by the April 19th deadline. We are happy to say that our goal of the computerized lottery program was met! Everyone who turned in their tournament applications by April 19th got into at least one of their top five choices. Thanks to Joe Whalen for developing the lottery program for us.
We appreciate your patience when it comes to returning phone calls or e-mails. We are quite busy during the summer months, and we try to answer every question that comes our way.
We want to thank everyone who signed up online this year. It saved us a lot of time. Hopefully you found the web-site easy to navigate. As always, if you have any suggestions for the web-site, let us know. Paul Grovum, Head PGA Golf Professional at Bemidji T&CC, is our webmaster, and he has done a terrific job with the site.
Please continue to notify us of address changes. It is important for us to have your current address so you won't miss out on event start times or other information. The same goes for e-mail addresses. We have found this a great way to communicate with our members, and would like to have your most current e-mail address.
One last thanks goes out to all of the facilities who are hosting a 2002 Minnesota PGA Junior Golf Association event; especially the PGA Professionals, Club Managers, Course Superintendents and Board Members. Your cooperation allows so many juniors the opportunity to play and develop their skills to become great golfers.

| Count All Strokes (Yours and Theirs)! |
An important issue in Junior Golf is the accusation that "so and so" didn't count all of their strokes. We receive phone calls and e-mail messages every year that tell us this is going on. We obviously want juniors to play fair, and everyone in the group can help out. If you are keeping someone's score, you need to watch that person and agree on a score at the end of the hole. If you can not agree on a score, you need to bring this issue to the attention of the On-Site Administrator before you sign their scorecard.
Unfortunately we are not able to have Rules Officials with each group at our events, so it is up to each junior to make sure they pay attention to what is going on in their group. This protects the entire field, and doesn't give anyone an unfair advantage.

| 12 & Under Year-End Championships |
|
We have finalized the dates for the Beginners' Tour and Transition Tour Championships. The Beginners' Tour Championship will be held Monday, August 5th at the Lafayette Club in Minnetonka Beach, MN. The Transition Tour Championship will be held Tuesday, August 6th at River Oaks GC in Cottage Grove, MN. Juniors may participate in only one of these Championships. Entry forms have been sent to all juniors in the Beginners' Tour and Transition Tour. |
| Players' Tour Update |
Players' Tour members are eligible to qualify for the year-end event, The Tournament of Champions. This event is an invitation-only event, held at Izaty's G&YC, August 1-2. Invitations will be extended to the top 18 boys and 6 girls (depending on the size of the series), based upon their Players' Tour Player of the Year Point Standings or Juniors who have won an event in their individual series. Point distribution and Rules and Regulations can be found in the 2002 Players' Tour section of www.minnesotajuniorgolf.com.
We are still accepting entries for the Inaugural Players' Tour Four-Ball Championship to be held on August 5th at the Minneapolis GC. Both partners must be members of the 2002 Players' Tour to be eligible. If you need an entry form, contact Bob or Melanie.

| College Golf Seminar Recap |
|
The Minnesota PGA Junior Golf Association College Golf Seminar was held on Saturday, April 6th, 2002 at Majestic Oaks GC in Ham Lake, MN. Approximately 30 junior golfers were in attendance, a low number due to the snow storm. A special thanks goes to Brad James, Men's Golf Coach for the University of Minnesota, and Kathy Lombrito, Women's Head Golf Coach for St. Thomas University. They did a fantastic job of explaining how to prepare for college golf. Thanks also to Trent Hicks of SportsDreams Consulting for providing the handout material. The Minnesota PGA Junior Golf Association has extra handouts from the College Golf Seminar for anyone interested in playing college golf, but did not have a chance to attend. Contact the Junior Golf Office for more information.

| Minnesota PGA Junior Golf Association Scholarship |
The Minnesota PGA Junior Golf Association will be offering the Minnesota PGA Junior Golf Association scholarships again in 2002. The criteria for this scholarship are based on grades and extra-curricular activities. The scholarships are available only to 2002 Minnesota PGA Junior Golf Association members who are going to be seniors in high school for the 2002-03 school year. The Minnesota PGA Junior Golf Committee will vote and make the final decision on whom they think is most deserving of the scholarships. Individuals interested in obtaining more information about the scholarship can call the Minnesota PGA Junior Golf Association at (763) 754-6641. Applications will be sent out to those requesting one later this summer and will be due sometime this fall. The Minnesota PGA Junior Scholarship was designed to assist junior golfers who plan on furthering their education beyond high school. The Minnesota PGA Junior Golf Association Scholarship Fund was established in 1996. Since its conception, at least one boy and one girl have been awarded a $500.00 Minnesota PGA Junior Golf Association Scholarship.
