2005 Minnesota Junior Golf Association     Player Profile Archives
• Fall 2005 - Player Profiles

Jon Trasamar   Age 15   Blue Earth, MN
Junior Golf Highlights/Accomplishments: Jon was the winner of the 2005 Players' Tour Tournament of Champions. He finished third in Players' Tour Player of the Year point standings and was the runner-up at the 2005 Class "A" State Tournament. He played in the Pepsi Little People's Tournament in Illinois and took third, a tourney he won three years ago. Jon also finished as the 1st alternate in the U.S. Jr. Amateur qualifier at Braemar GC. In 2004 he qualified for the Optimist Junior and finished 17th out of 180 at PGA National in Florida. In the fall of '04 Jon played at the FCWT event in St. Louis and lost by one shot. In 2005 he won a FCWT event at TPC at Deer Run and qualified for the FCWT National Championship at PGA West, where he finished 33rd.
Most Memorable experience(s) that occurred while participating in a Minnesota PGA Junior Event: For me I would say it is all three years playing in the Jr. PGA. I've played some great golf courses in Minnesota, met and played with some great players and had a lot of fun doing it.
What are some tips/advice that you would recommend to other juniors to help them with their game? Golf is a game that you're only going to get out what you put in. So it's on you to work hard for results. There is going to be a lot of highs and lows and the highs may be more fun, but you will learn more when you lose.
Additional Activities/Hobbies: Besides golf, Jon plays basketball and spends a lot of time with family and friends. He loves to play all sports, so he plays a lot of other sports for fun.
Josh Bruder   Age 15   Lakeville, MN
Junior Golf Highlights/Accomplishments: Josh was the winner of the Players' Cup Ages 13-15 at Loggers Trail GC. This was a year of firsts for Josh. First year on the Players' Tour, first win on the Players' Tour with a 71 at Southview CC. He competed in his first varsity meet for Lakeville High School and was medalist with a 3-under par 68 at the 12 team Red Wing Invitational. First time he had the honor of being named Star Tribune Athlete of the Week. First time the Pioneer Press ranked him as one of the top 10 golfers in the metro area.
Most Memorable experience(s) that occurred while participating in a Minnesota PGA Junior Event: Josh's most memorable experience was winning the Players' Cup at Loggers Trail for ages 13-15 with a 74 this past August.
What are some tips/advice that you would recommend to other juniors to help them with their game? Just relax and have fun. If you have a bad hole don't give up, work through it. Focus on one shot at a time. Try not to get ahead of yourself. I also believe what made a big difference for me this year was having a workout routine that helped with core strength and flexibility.
Additional Activities/Hobbies: When Josh is not playing golf he is spending time with friends, watching the Boston Red Sox, swimming and playing catch with his dad, or playing the piano.
Ryan Peterson   Age 16   Eagan, MN
Junior Golf Highlights/Accomplishments: Ryan was the 2005 Players' Tour Series "A" Champion. He has played on the Eagan High School varsity team since 8th grade and received All State and All Conference honors the last two years. Competed in Class "AA" State tournament the past three years, and was individual Co-Champion in 2005. The Eagan team also finished first setting a new tournament scoring record. He was the 2005 MGA Junior Player of the Year and the 2005 Junior Publinks Champion. Ryan has been a member of the MN/WI and MN/Manitoba Cup teams for the past two years. Shot a 5-under par 68 at Emerald Greens in a high school Conference match this year. Last, but not least his ace at Mountain Brook GC in Arizona.
Most Memorable experience(s) that occurred while participating in a Minnesota PGA Junior Event: Playing in the Minnesota vs. Wisconsin Cup Matches for the past two years. I enjoy this event because you don't normally get to play in that format. It's fun to play on the same team with the other kids from MN and against great competition. Also making it to the final four in the Match Play at Cragun's when I was an 8th grader.
What are some tips/advice that you would recommend to other juniors to help them with their game? Don't spend all of your practice time on the driving range. Half of your shots on the course will come from your short game. Practice on and around the green for a couple of hours a week and things will come easier to you.
Additional Activities/Hobbies: Ryan likes to play basketball, poker, ping-pong and hang out with friends.
Jordan Dockter   Age 17   Apple Valley, MN
Junior Golf Highlights/Accomplishments: Jordan has lettered for two years for Eastview High School's varsity golf team and will be captain for the 2006 season. He placed 6th at the 2005 Players' Tour Tournament of Champions and took 3rd in the 2005 Players' Cup Ages 16-18 at Chaska Town Course. Jordan also won a Junior Tour event this past summer at Valleywood GC.
Most Memorable experience(s) that occurred while participating in a Minnesota PGA Junior Event: My most memorable experience was in a three-person playoff for second place at LeSeuer CC. I birdied the par 5 first hole to win the playoff.
What are some tips/advice that you would recommend to other juniors to help them with their game? Play junior events to gain tournament experience. Work on your short game and play the course to your strengths.
Additional Activities/Hobbies: Basketball, football and tennis
Molly Noser   Age 16   Rochester, MN
Junior Golf Highlights/Accomplishments: Molly has played Varsity golf for Rochester Lourdes high school since seventh grade and has earned all-conference honors three years and all state for two years. She placed 8th and 12th at the Class "A" State Tournament at Izaty's as a freshman and sophomore. In 2002, she got a hole-in-one for a local best-shot tournament at Soldier's Field GC. This year Molly placed first in the third flight at the MWGA Girls Championship at Braemar GC and her team placed third at the MGA team championship at LeSeuer CC. Molly took 2nd place at the Players' Cup Ages 16-18 at Chaska Town Course losing in a playoff for 1st place. She has played in the Players' Tour Tournament of Champion's for the last two years at The Legacy at Cragun's.
Most Memorable experience(s) that occurred while participating in a Minnesota PGA Junior Event: Shooting even par at Chaska Town Course for the Players' Cup 16-18 this year.
What are some tips/advice that you would recommend to other juniors to help them with their game? Play the game of golf one shot at a time. Don't lose your concentration when things are going bad. Work hard on your short game because that is the key to low scores.
Additional Activities/Hobbies: Molly plays varsity tennis and also downhill skis. She enjoys spending time at the lake fishing and water skiing.
Joanna Smith   Age 17   Eagan, MN
Junior Golf Highlights/Accomplishments: Joanna is the 2005 Players' Tour Series "C" Champion. She has been MVP of the Eagan varsity golf team for the past three years and holds all of the schools all-time scoring records. She has been Lake All-Conference in both 2004 and 2005 and All-State in 2005. She took 2nd place in the 2005 MWGA Junior Girls Championship and 3rd place at the MGA Junior Team Championship. Joanna was the medalist at the 3AA Regional Championship and placed 15th at the Class "AA" State Tournament. She also placed first at the 2005 Eastview High School Invite and at the inaugural Dakota County High School Championship. She participated in the Pepsi Little People's Championship and took 14th place.
Most Memorable experience(s) that occurred while participating in a Minnesota PGA Junior Event: I was playing in a Minnesota Jr. PGA event on my birthday and missed a hole-in-one on the second hole by an inch. It would have been a great birthday gift!
What are some tips/advice that you would recommend to other juniors to help them with their game? Work hard and have fun! To excel in any sport you must put a lot of time and hard work into practicing and training, but if you're not having fun at the same time you'll never be able to find the motivation to work and train even harder. That is the only way to truly reach your full potential.
Additional Activities/Hobbies: Joanna loves to play basketball and run cross-country. She has been on the varsity cross-country team at Eagan High School for two years and has played on the basketball team for three years. She is looking forward to being captain for next year's varsity basketball team. Joanna also loves art and enjoys painting and photography and another hobby of hers is reading.
Hillary Gerster   Age 16   Andover, MN
Junior Golf Highlights/Accomplishments: Hillary was the winner of the 2005 Players' Tour Tournament of Champions. She was the 2005 7AA Section Champion and was fifth in the Northwest Suburban Conference. She has participated in the Class "AA" State Tournament two times. Hillary won the first flight at the MWGA Junior Girls Championship and made it to the final four in the Players' Tour Match Play Championship. She finished in 4th place in Players' Tour Player of the Year point standings and competed on the MN/WI Cup team.
Most Memorable experience(s) that occurred while participating in a Minnesota PGA Junior Event: Winning the Tournament of Champions this year and meeting so many great people have been the highlights of the Junior PGA.
What are some tips/advice that you would recommend to other juniors to help them with their game? A solid short game is key in playing well; along with staying positive and having fun.
Additional Activities/Hobbies: Hockey, Link Crew and Spanish Club.
Amy Anderson   Age 13   Oxbow, ND
Junior Golf Highlights/Accomplishments: Amy was the winner of the 2005 Players' Cup Ages 13-15 at Loggers Trail GC. She won the Fargo-Moorhead Junior All-City in 2004 and 2005 and was the Oxbow Women's Club Champion in 2004. She took seventh place at the Pepsi Little People's in Quincy, Illinois in 2004. Amy played in the U.S. Kids in Williamsburg, Virginia in 2003 and took 13th place and in 2002 took 8th place. She has won the Ironman GC Junior Tournament in Detroit Lakes four years in a row from 2001-2004.
Most Memorable experience(s) that occurred while participating in a Minnesota PGA Junior Event: Of course winning the Players' Cup was the most memorable thing for me. It is always fun to meet new people and play courses I've never seen before.
What are some tips/advice that you would recommend to other juniors to help them with their game? Make sure you have the right fundamentals. The three most important things are the grip, the stance and posture. Once you get those things right you can develop your own swing. No two pros on tour have the exact same swing. But you can't expect to be good right away. It takes practice, practice, PRACTICE!!!
Additional Activities/Hobbies: Amy likes to read, horseback ride and play pretty much every other sport. She also plays piano and violin.
