FARIBAULT, Minn – The 2023 Minnesota Girls Junior PGA Championship was held June 19-20, 2023, at Legacy Golf, located in Faribault, MN. Thank you to Head Golf Professional/General Manager, Jackie Johnson and Golf COE Director & Head Coach at Shattuck St. Mary’s, Tim Desormeau, PGA for hosting the event.

At the conclusion of the 36-hole event, the top two scorers qualified for the 2023 National Girls Junior PGA Championship. This prestigious event will take place at Hot Springs Country Club in Hot Springs, Arkansas on August 1-4, 2023.

Kathryn VanArragon shot a four under par round of 68, which gave her a two-shot lead over Ava Hanneman who shot a two under par round of 70 after the first round on Monday, June 19, 2023. Nicole Reineke (E) and Abigail Labrador (+1) were not far behind the leading scores going into round two.

On the afternoon of Tuesday, June 20, 2023, Kathryn VanArrgon claimed her 3rd consecutive Minnesota Girls Junior PGA Championship Title by finishing six under par, 68-70-138. VanArrgon won by seven strokes over Ava Hanneman (+1) and Abigail Labrador (+1), which secured her qualification into the 2023 National Girls Junior PGA Championship.

“I really enjoyed my time playing in the Minnesota Junior PGA Championship in Faribault. Legacy Golf was such a nice and unique course and in great condition for the event.” Said VanArragon after completing her 36 holes.

Ava Hanneman and Abigail Labrador had a playoff for the 2nd qualifying spot to play in the national event immediately after they finished the second and final round on Tuesday. Hanneman made her 12-foot birdie putt to lock down her spot in the 2023 National Girls Junior PGA Championship.

Although thirteen-year-old Abigail Labrador lost the playoff, she resulted as the lowest score for the Girls 13-15 division followed by runner-up, Selena Wu (+6) and 3rd place, Kieley Hanson (+9).

In the Girls 16-18 division, Kathryn VanArragon (-6) claimed medalist honors, Ava Hanneman (+1) got runner-up, and Nicole Reineke (+4) earned 3rd place.

Due to meeting exemption requirements, Reese McCauley will also be competing in the National Girls Junior PGA Championship alongside Kathryn VanArragon and Ava Hanneman at Hot Springs Country Club on August 1-4, 2023.

“I can’t wait to represent Minnesota in Arkansas, especially alongside Ava and Reese, who are two of my closest friends.” Said VanArragon after earning her spot in the 2023 National Girls Junior PGA Championship.
